William Hull (1753-1825) was a lawyer and a soldier. He served in the Revolutionary War and afterwards in the U.S. Army where he attained the rank of Brigadier-General. In 1805 he was appointed Governor of the Michigan Territory. In 1812 he was court-martialed and cashiered from the Army because of the failure of his campaign into Canada against the British.
