Series 151 of record group 58-17 consists of a map and survey notes of the Battle Creek to Hastings State Road (established by Public Act 116 of 1838) as surveyed by John Meachum, between December 12 and 24, 1838, and originally collected by the Michigan Lands Division. The map includes rivers, creeks, saw mills and lakes. Survey notes show stations; courses; distance in chains and links; witness tress; inches in diameter and courses they bear; description of timber; soil on each mile; description of streams, marshes and swamps; distance from last stake; breadth, depth and course. Each piece of the map and field notes are 17" x 13" in size; and the map has a scale is 2 in. : 1 mile.
