Contains a brief memoir relating Rynearson's impressions of his training, the LDS church structure in training camp, and the correspondence and support received from home. Also details military experiences including, most notably, his landing on Utah Beach, Normandy, on D-day, and being among the first troops to enter liberated Paris. Bulk of memoir describes three combat experiences in Belgium and the Hurtgen Forrest wherein Rynearson attributes his survival to divine intervention and protection. Contains photocopies of his discharge papers. Photographs include: Rynearson in military dress in training camp, Paris, and with fellow soldiers and liberated Parisians. Also includes photographs of the secured beach-head at Normandy and scenes of the European theater excerpted from a book.

Rynearson, Calvin A., 1924-

Rynearson served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-1945. He was a member of the 44th Field Artillery Battalion, 4th Infantry Division, and worked as a field wire man, forward observer and radio operator. Rynearson achieved the rank of corporal.
