Records, 1913-1968.

Collection documents aspects of the business of the real estate company (W.J. Lane Company) and the appraisal company (Harry Arneson, Jr. and Associates). The Lane company records include correspondence (1942-1968) arranged in alphabetical order and touches on a wide variety of topics related to real estate. There is a large amount of correspondence dealing with the local Oganized Reserve Corps. The appraisals by Harry Arneson, Jr. and Associates are primarily for Fargo, West Fargo and Bismarck but other cities and properties are represented, including the Cox Bakery properties in North Dakota, Minnesota and Arizona. The Fargo Industrial Development Corporation files deal with its work in acquiring property in Fargo for industrial development in 1948-1949. The Lane company also managed rental property for clients and some of their ledgers are present, spanning from 1916 to 1948. The scrapbooks series is a good source of newspaper clippings on new construction in the region, especially for Fargo-Moorhead covering the years 1952-1964. There are also business calendars issued by the company from 1948 to 1955 and a variety of business related documents, real estate issues, speeches, and a number of estates handled by the Lane company. There is a report, likely from the 1920s, by Harland Bartholomew on city planning in Fargo, and a speech given to the local Lions Club on zoning in Fargo.
