Negative taken for July 14, 1963, Arkansas Gazette article "Helena-It's Truly a 'Marked' City," E5:2. In Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas, there are a multitude of historical and tourist markers, including a marker/monument to Hernando De Soto. The marker covers the route De Soto took across Arkansas and finally across the Mississippi River at Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas. The marker was raised by the Colonial Dames of America, June 20, 1951. It reads, "De Soto. June 25, 1541. Erected by the national Society of the Colonial Dames of America, June 25, 1951."
