Negative taken for February 14, 1960, Arkansas Gazette article "Historic Batesville Sees New Era of Progress," E1:2. A signpost marker identifying the property as the past home of Arkansas College located in Batesville, Independence County, Arkansas. The college was founded by Doctor Isaac J. Long in 1872. It was moved to a new, larger location in 1954. Marker reads, "Great Seal of the State of Arkansas. Arkansas College Original Campus. Founded by the Presbyterian Church, U.S., in 1872. Dr. Isaac J. Long was the first president. In 1954 the college was moved to a new and larger campus one mile east of here. Erected by Arkansas College and Arkansas History Commission 1959."
