Philadelphia Athletics : scrapbook, 1866-1874.

Detailed seasonal account of the Philadelphia Athletic Baseball Club from 1866 through 1874, including the team trip to England in 1874. Contains a career account and obituary of Wes Fisler and appears to somewhat detail his career. In 1866 a crowd activity that closely resembles the modern day "wave" is described. In 1868 Frank Queen, of the N.Y. Clipper, established the "Clipper" gold medal awarded annually to each positional player based on the averages of runs and outs; a rendering of the medal may be found in an article on p. 37 as well as a list of the first recipients. A woodcut of Opening Day in 1867 is also included.
