Samuel Eliot Morison papers, 1952-1965.

Papers of maritime historian and professor Samuel Eliot Morison consist primarily of manuscripts of his books, articles, and addresses, 1952-65, including correspondence, notes, photostats and copies of original materials relating to his work, typescripts, proofs, galleys, and photographs. Included are: Of Plymouth Plantation by William Bradford (ed., 1952); By Land and Sea (1953); The Parkman Reader (ed., 1955); One Hour of American History (1929, 1960); Builders of the Bay Colony (1930, 1963); History of United States Naval Operations in World War II (1947-1962), Vol. VII; One Boy's Boston (1962); The Oxford History of the American People (1965); "Old Bruin" (1967); and Harrison Gray Otis (1969). The collection also includes a commonplace-book kept by Mrs. Samuel Eliot in 1868; correspondence with Mrs. August Belmont concerning reminiscences of the Belmont family, 1964-68; and correspondence with Walt Rostow concerning the exception taken by President Lyndon B. Johnson to Morison's views on the War of 1812.
