Sierra Club, Shawnee Group records, 1972-1987.

The records of the Shawnee Group of the Sierra Club include by-laws, meeting minutes, correspondence newsletters, maps and news clippings. Meeting minutes are from the group's executive committee and are limited to the 1983-1986 period. Correspondence is found mainly in project files. There is a fairly complete set of newsletters from 1972-1987. There are several files related to the USDA Forest Service's second Roadless Areas Review and Education program (RARE II, 1977-1980) and the subsequent Research Natural Areas process, though which the group worked to get several areas of the Shawnee National Forest designated as wilderness areas.
