Contains information pertaining to the following wars: World War II (WWII), Vietnam War. General description of the collection: The Fifth Infantry Division Society collection consists mainly of newspaper clippings on deployments, reorganizations, and awards of the Fifth Infantry Division (Mechanized) and Fort Carson, Colorado. Also present are a large number of news releases that date mostly from 1962-1970 about the Second (2nd) Brigade's relocation; unit history and anniversaries; reports on the progression, success, and failure in Vietnam; and personal stories of the combat soldiers in Vietnam. Included are publications that were printed at Fort Carson, Colorado, either as welcome books or directories for new soldiers. There are about one hundred photographs, mainly of the First (1st) Brigade of the 5th Infantry Division in the Quang Tri Province, Vietnam, 1961-1973. Images include command staff, Johnny Grant and his United States Overseas (USO) / United States Service Organizations show troupe, Admiral John McCain, soldier training, equipment, and everyday soldier life in Vietnam.

John Sidney McCain III was born to John Sidney McCain (1911-1981) and Roberta (Wright) McCain (1912-) in the Panama Canal Zone on August 29, 1936.
