Francis V. Nonini was born May 6, 1907 in Bayhorse, Idaho, to Custer County pioneers Victor P. and Domenica Nonini. He attended public school in Mackay, graduating from Mackay High School in 1925. He then attended the University of Idaho where he majored in geology and botany. After graduating in 1930 he began teaching general science and botany in the Moscow High School.
