On March 22, 1948, Iowa State College (University) sponsored a 90th anniversary celebration in honor of the founding of the college, which occurred on the same date in 1858 when the charter act establishing a state agricultural college became law. Whitney, Frank S. (Frank Stevens), 1893-1959.

Frank Stevens Whitney was born in Britt, Iowa and studied civil engineering at Iowa State College (University) where he was a member of the Ausonia Club and Army ROTC until he went into the service in 1917. During World War I, he served overseas with the Rainbow Division and later the 34th Division. After his discharge in 1919, he worked in Iowa land reclamation work (1919-1923), the Kentucky Highway Department (1923-1930) and was eventually named city engineer/public works director in Huntingto...
