These files reflect some of the most controversial issues of Lindgren's political career as Fargo mayor. He was a pro-choice advocate, dealing with abortion protestors at the Women's Health Organization in Fargo. His signing proclamations designating Gay and Lesbian Awareness Week was controversial, with documents on both sides of the issue in the collection. There are documents related to Leonard Peltier, including letters from Peltier to Lindgren, legal documents regarding his case and newspaper articles. Lindgren was a strong opponent of a bridge across the Red River between Fargo and Moorhead at 12th Avenue North in Fargo. The documents include mainly correspondence, articles on the project, maps and a bridge feasibility report. There is also a tape of the satirical song, "12th Avenue North Bridge Song" sung by the Plain People, done in 1988. There is also some general mayoral correspondence, articles on his mayoral career, election material and honors received.
