Administrative history of the Church Educational System (CES) 1888-1994, 1995.

Describes the origins, organization, and history of both religious and secular education within the LDS Church. The purpose of the work was to help archivists place in historical context, corporate papers entering the LDS Church Historical Department (Salt Lake City). The paper discusses administrative changes and developments in centralized education including: a board of education, a board of examiners, the office of superintendent and later commissioner of education, a department of education (later Church Education System), a system of academies, religion classes, missionary training program, seminaries, and institutes of religion. The work also includes references to archival and printed sources, a bibliography, a time-line, organizational hierarchies, lists of executive officers, and key under-administrators and staff prior to the early 1970's. The work also describes in brief Church education outside of the continental United States and the administrative history of the LDS Church's institutions of higher education including Brigham Young Academy (later University, Provo, Utah), the Brigham Young College (Logan, Utah), the Young University (Salt Lake City), the LDS College (Salt Lake City), and the University of Utah.
