The bulk of the papers date from 1965-1988 and reflect the daily life of a small textile company. Additional papers document Harold Sherman's other companies and his work as an inventor. Included are administrative records, 1958-1988, with correspondence, personnel recruitment information, etc.; financial records, 1965-1981; purchasing records, 1965-1988, arranged by supplier; sales records, 1963-1987; labor records, 1966-1988, with information on job applicants, employee time cards, and payroll books; and production records, 1950-1988. Also contains working papers of Harold Sherman, with correspondence, patent information, etc. Records of Sherman Looms, Inc., 1926-1934, and Harold Sherman, Inc., 1939-1959, are included. Records from Lion Braiding, 1977-1981, are also in the collection. This company was founded by James Felton, Martha Sherman's former husband, and its activities were intertwined with the Sherman Textile Corp. Samples of braids, ribbons, threads, etc., are also included in the collection.

Sherman in 1965 after a long career in the textile industry. Born in 1885 in Melrose, Mass., Sherman worked at various companies after his graduation from high school in 1905.
