This New York (N.Y.) merchant import firm was heavily involved in commerce between China and the United States. The account book records detailed accounts of teas, silks, satins, shawls, pongees, oil, pepper, etc., primarily imported from Canton and Shanghai. The tea trade accounts are particularly detailed. Cargoes were recorded for the ships Adelaide, Carrington, Cassiterides, Celestial, Houqua, and Saint Patrick, as well as the schooner Globe. Shipping is recorded from the ports of New York, N.Y.; Salem, Mass.; Canton and Shanghai, China; Hong Kong; Singapore; Charente, France; Liverpool, Great Britain; and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The second volume consists of a separate sales index.
