Sixth-plate daguerreotype in leather case of the New York Presbyterian minister and editor of the New York Observer, Charles Augustus Stoddard (1833-1920). The photograph was taken by an unknown photographer circa 1850. A note attached the case and written in an unknown hand erroneously identifies Stoddard's age in the photograph as "27 years of age."
