Quarter-plate daguerreotype in leather case of Leverett Saltonstall (1855-1863), the son of Leverett Saltonstall (1825-1895) and Rose Smith Lee Saltonstall, at age 2 1/2. The photograph was taken by the photographers Southworth & Hawes of Boston, Mass. in May of 1858. Enclosed is a note in an unknown hand that identifies the photograph.

Attributed to the photographic firm of Southworth & Hawes. This photographic print was one of a series of prints that formed a panoramic view of the city of Boston taken from the State House in 1858. The individual prints have been reproduced several times; this particular print probably dates from the late nineteenth century.
