[Map of Sault Ste. Marie].

Series 24 of record group 59-4 consists of a map of Sault Ste. Marie, a certified copy by Lucius Lyon (Feb. 9, 1846) of a map transmitted by Henry R. Schoolcraft (Aug. 9, 1823), originally collected by either the Michigan Geological Survey or the Michigan Lands Division. The map shows fishing and encamping grounds on the bank of St. Mary's River, various claims to public lands, sawmill canal, wharves, portages, Indian burial ground, and "cantonment." The map is 13" x 16" in size, no scale given.
