Scrapbooks 1932-1959.

This series consists of two scrapbooks created by the Women's Missionary Society (WMS) of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church (UELC) containing information for the society from 1932-1959. It is not known when the society began compiling these scrapbooks. They were used as a way to chronicle the history of the society and to highlight various aspects of the organization. The first scrapbook contains only WMS-related newspaper clippings from the UELC publication, The Ansgar Lutheran. The clippings are from 1932-1938 and include articles pertaining to the beginnings of the society, notices for future meetings, articles about particular WMS projects, such as the orphanage at Elk Horn, Iowa, summaries of annual meetings, and reports from the WMS treasurer and secretary. The clippings have the date, written in by hand, of the issue when the item appeared in The Ansgar Lutheran. There is also a copy of the program from the fifth annual convention of the WMS held in Medicine Lake, Minnesota, June 11, 1937. The second scrapbook contains material related to the WMS from 1932-1959. This scrapbook, in addition to newspaper clippings of the same variety found in the other scrapbook, also contains copies of WMS convention programs, programs from convention banquets, education and outreach programs, information on mission projects, printed annual reports, and samples of WMS publications. This scrapbook is quite comprehensive in the types of material it includes and covers the entire time period the WMS was in existence. Unfortunately many of the items included in the scrapbook were attached to the pages with glue or tape. In some instances the booklets are taped shut, so that one is unable to examine the entire booklet. There are loose items included as well.
