Sixth-plate daguerreotype of a portrait painting of the Boston, Mass. merchant and shipbuilder Nathaniel Goddard (1767-1853), in a lacquered wood case with silver and mother-of-pearl inlays and leather binding. The original painter is unidentified, and the photographer is also unknown. The photo was probably made ca. 1854. Enclosed is a note in an unknown hand identifying the photograph.
