Contains photographs of the following military units and organizations: 103rd Infantry Regiment; 309th Infantry Regiment; 112th Infantry Regiment; 16th Infantry Regiment; 305th Infantry Regiment; 339th Infantry Regiment; 340th Infantry Regiment; 346th Infantry Regiment; 77th Field Artillery Regiment; 49th Armored Division; 29th Engineer Regiment; 1st Cavalry Regiment, Illinois National Guard; 90th Platoon, United States Marine Corps (USMC). General description of the collection: The American Legion photograph collection consists of a miscellany of photographs dealing with a variety of military subjects including training at Camp Upton, Long Island, New York; a report of the conditions of the armory to the 1st Cavalry, Illinois National Guard; and photos taken of the first atomic bomb test at Bikini Island in 1946. Many of these photos are of the long, rolled variety of units on military posts mostly of the WW era. A few more current images are of units of the 49th Armored Division in training taken around 1965.
