Lloyd Mifflin letter to John Ruskin, and provenance note, 1872, n.d.

The collection consists of two items: a long, handwritten letter from Lloyd Mifflin to John Ruskin, 26 Aug. 1872, from Düsseldorf, with two illustrations, largely concerning Mifflin's visit to the Bridge at Coblentz and the tower across the Rhine from the bridge, with comments on Turner's painting of the bridge, and appreciation for Ruskin's analysis of the painting. Also includes an undated note from Frank Short, explaining how Ruskin had given the letter to Dr. Drewit, a former pupil, who had in turn given it to Short when he was working on an engraving of Turner's painting.
