Glass plate negative collection 1903-1945.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden Glass Plate Negative collection documents the history of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden from it's early days through the mid 1950s. Although Louis Buhle was the Garden's photographer, not all the negatives in this collection are his work. Other photographers whose work is represented in this collection include Charles Stuart Gager, Elsie May Kittregde, Norman Taylor, and Takeo Shiota. Other photographers are also represented in this collection, however, their work is not represented to the extent as the five photographers previously mentioned. In addition to original images, there are also copied images in this collection. The copy work includes photographs, pages from texts, and postcards. The images represent all aspects of the Garden, such as the growth and development of the physical plant and grounds, gardening and education programs for adults and children, plantings, exhibits, and scientific research.
