General description of the collection: The Raymond J. Lord noncommissioned officer's (NCO's) papers include: memoir covering service in Massachusetts National Guard; at Charleston, South Carolina (mostly August 1939-May 1944); trip on SS Monterey around Cape of Good Hope to Iran; duty with 2nd and 256th Station Hospitals in Basra, Ahwa, and Abadan giving medical support to military and civilians in Persian corridor; lend-lease to Soviet Union; living conditions; natives; and Polish workers. He left via the Red Sea for the U.S. in February 1944.
