Oral history interview with Harold D. Rosenbaum, June 24, 1982.

Rosenbaum gives his perspective on developments of the Conservative congregations of Seattle after the mid-1950s. Having served as a board member for many years, he discusses Herzl Congregation in detail, including its religious leaders, Rabbi Joseph Wagner and cantor Joseph Frankel. He describes the founding of Ner Tamid, Beth Am, and Beth Shalom synagogues. He offers observations on the functioning of the Seattle Jewish community and on the relationships of its constituent elements. Rosenbaum calls himself a reconstructionist and briefly discusses that movement, its founder Mordecai Kaplan, and its influence on modern Jewish life. Rosenbaum has worked in several artistic media, especially paper-cutting, pricipally using Jewish subjects. He mentions his daughter Betsy's work with Jewish dissidents in the Soviet Union and Russian Jewish emigrants in Rome and New York. He also offers insight into pedodontics, the Alpha-Omega fraternity, and the fluoridation controversy.
