Correspondence and manuscript. Letter 2: Autograph letter, signed by Mary Russell Mitford, to "My dear friend," undated. She has received her manuscript along with the comments of the friend. She has worked hard at it although she is ill with influenza. She is afraid she may die before the story is completed. She has been prescribed either wine or champagne with water. She may do a second series of recollections, but at her own pace. She sends an autograph copy of an early poem. Manuscript: Autograph manuscript, "The School-girl's own Garden," signed by Mary Russell Mitford and dated December 21, 1853. It consists of eighteen lines, tetrameter couplets, with a note, "Written at sixteen, transcribed at sixty-seven -- N.R.M." The stationary is embossed at the lower-left with a crown in a roundel.
