Perry R. Brightman journal, 1852-1857.

Journal of sailor Perry Brightman, kept from 24 June 1852 - 3 April 1854 and 9 June 1856 - 23 April 1857, on board the Bark George and Mary. The journal describes a whaling voyage on the Atlantic Ocean from Westport Point (now Westport), Mass., to the "Western Grounds". Entries note weather and sailing conditions, life on board ship, obtaining provisions, and chasing and catching whales. The journal also includes a list of crew members who served on the voyage.
