Letters to his deceased wife's family including Nancy, Burritt and Walter Tolles describing his activities in the 20th Regiment of Connecticut Infantry. Mentions the barite mines and the Judd & Smith firm of undertakers in Cheshire, Conn., and the Simmons & Miller Plate Company factory in Middletown, Conn., which was destroyed by fire. Includes letters from his second wife, Mary Smith complaining that the war has taken all the men in Cheshire and whose brother Thomas died from wounds received in the Battle of Gettysburg.
