Tiffany and Company was was founded in 1837 by the jeweler Charles Lewis Tiffany. It started as a stationary and fine goods store and named "Tiffany, Young and Ellis" for its three founders. It changed its name in 1853 when Charles Tiffany took control and established the firm's emphasis on jewelry.
