Charles Cotesworth Pinckney (February 25, 1746 – August 16, 1825) was an early American statesman of South Carolina, Revolutionary War veteran, and delegate to the Constitutional Convention. He was twice nominated by the Federalist Party as its presidential candidate in 1804 and 1808, losing both elections. Pinckney was born into a powerful family of aristocratic planters. Francois Didier Petit de Villers (1761-1841) was a French aristocrat who lived in Santo Domingo, Haiti. He fled Haiti in fear of slave uprisings and was naturalized as an American citizen in Baltimore, Maryland in 1796. He arrived in Savannah, Georgia, in approximately 1803, where he began to work as a commission merchant and factor.
