The collection includes correspondence related to Holloway's personal and business dealings, and records concerning his tenure as postmaster of Indianapolis. Correspondents include William McKinley (1843-1901) and Marcus Hanna (1837-1904). Business records concern Holloway's activities with Indianapolis newspapers and the Indianapolis Cable Street Railway Company. Also included are papers generated by Oliver P. Morton and his family. These include personal and political correspondence, speech notes, letters of condolence, records of Oliver T. Morton's (1860-1898) legal practice, and a recipe book.

William Robeson Holloway (1836-1911) was born in Richmond, Wayne County, Ind. He married Eliza Burbank in 1858 and in 1861 began working as Governor Oliver P. Morton's private secretary. In 1864 he invested in the "Indianapolis Journal" and was appointed state printer in 1865. He returned to the position as Morton's private secretary in 1867, and in 1869 became postmaster of Indianapolis. Indiana lawyer, judge, and Republican politician. Morton served as the state's lieutenant governor in 1861, and as governor from 1861 to 1867.
