Gerald Murnane letter to Nicholas Birns, 1995 Nov. 14.

In a typed letter dated 14 Nov. 1995, Gerald Murnane relates news of his imminent retirement, and his plans for writing a novel to be called Masthead of the world, inspired by the story of Ishi, the last surviving member of a tribe of California Indians. He goes on to describe his writing habits, and comment on a piece Birns published in Southerly, relating it to his novel, Inland.
