Clippings concering Ithaca people and events from the Ithaca Daily Journal and other publications. Subjects include the execution of Edward H. Rulloff; the execution of Guy C. Clark, the first person to be executed in Tompkins County; the unveiling of a tablet in the Presbyterian Church commemorating Samuel Parker; the "Taghanic Stone Man" hoax; an obituary for William R. Humphrey; and a portrait of Simeon DeWitt. Also includes a pamphlet: "1482-1873. Hip! Hip! Hurrah!! The Fusileer Speech...," a humorous 4th of July oration apparently delivered or intended for delivery at Cortland or Virgil, 1873.

Reverend Samuel Parker was born on April 23, 1779 in Ashfield, Massachusetts. After his ordination in 1812, Parker preached and taught for over twenty years in New York. In 1833, he volunteered for service under the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Two years later, he and Dr. Marcus Whitman traveled to the Green River to determine the feasibility of an Indian mission for the Flathead and Nez PerceĢ tribes. Charles Humphrey was born in Little Britain, New York, on February 14, 1792, and was raised in Newburgh, New York. During the War of 1812, he interrupted his legal studies to serve as a first sergeant in Newburgh Company No. 5 and as a captain in the United States Army's 41st Infantry Regiment.
