Sol Esfeld photograph collection [graphic], 1931-1949 (bulk circa 1944).

The Sol Esfeld photograph collection primarily documents Jewish community leader, Sol Esfeld, and his activities in Seattle, Washington during World War II. While Esfeld appears in a few of the images, these photographs mainly depict events that were sponsored and organized by organizations with which he was involved, including the B'nai B'rith War Service Committee. Among the locations in which these events were staged was the Temple de Hirsch synagogue in Seattle. Several photographs were taken by Ernst Kassowitz.

Sol Esfeld (1899-1984) was born in Poland and came to Seattle from Texas in about 1909. He attended grade school in Seattle and later went to Wilson’s Business College. After graduation, he worked at a wholesale grocery store and about six months later was recommended for a job with a large insurance company as a stenographer.
