Papers of John Morgan and the Morgan family., 1843-1893.

Correspondence, 1843-1864, of John Morgan of Shenandoah County, Va. and later, West Virginia, chiefly concern slavery, secession, and the Civil War service of James B. Morgan and William S. Morgan. Topics include the 1843 sale of a slave without his prior knowledge to prevent his running away; the purchase of a man and wife; and the Richmond Convention and the presidential election of 1860. Civil War topics include uniforms, camp locations, and engagements. Later correspondence, bill of lading, and accounts, 1884-1893, with A.R. Ellerson & Company, Wool Buyers, of Richmond, concern the purchase and shipment of Morgan's wool.
