Jeremiah Smith Jr. was a pioneer settler, politician, and businessman in Burlington, Iowa. He received the title of major in the Black Hawk War, established a general store in Burlington in 1833, and traded with settlers and Sac and Fox Indians. Smith built a capitol for the First Wisconsin Territorial Legislature in Burlington at his own expense, but it burned in December 1837.
