Roger Sherman papers, 1850-1853

Letters to his son, John Staples Sherman, 1850-1853, and genealogical information about the Sherman family. Born in New Haven, Conn., son of the Hon. Roger Sherman, signer of the Declaration of Independence, July 16, 1768. Received a B.A. and M.A. at Yale, studied law, was representative in the General Assembly of Connecticut, merchant, dealt in real estate, owned and employed many vessels. Married on Sept. 1, 1801 Susannah Staples, descendant of Myles Standish, and had eleven children. He died in New Haven, March 5, 1856. (from T. T.
