New Year's gift rolls of the English sovereign [manuscript], 1539-1599.

Includes 1 gift roll of King Henry VIII and 6 gift rolls of Queen Elizabeth, of gifts given to and from hundreds of named nobles and officials of state and household, chiefly of plate, jewelry, or dress, often described in detail. On one side of the roll are the names of gift givers listed in descending order according to rank and position. In margin, opposite each entry, is noted the name of the person or officer to whom the gift was delivered, or the office to which it was consigned. On the opposite side is a list of the gifts presented by the sovereign, usually of gilt plate, during New Year's as well as throughout the previous year since the compiling of the last gift roll.
