Percival R. Jeffcott Papers, 1870-1968.

This collection comprises photographs, maps, correspondence, clippings, pamphlets, notes and writings relating to the history of Whatcom County. Many of these materials were used by Jeffcott in researching and writing his three published works: Nooksack Tales and Trails, "Blanket" Bill Jarman, and Chechaco and Sourdough. The collection includes over 2000 photographic images of people, places and events in Whatcom County, and also documents other areas in Washington State and British Columbia. The cartographic series includes maps of Washington State and the San Juan Islands.

Percival Robert Jeffcott (1876-1969) was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Portland, Oregon. Following his graduation from the Oregon School of Education in 1899, Jeffcott moved to Whatcom County, Washington, where he taught school for 25 years. In 1901, he organized the first high school class in Ferndale, where he served as principal, and also began the first high-school class in Custer in 1904.
