Papers, 1935-1945.

There are two series in the collection. In Series I, Publications, are newsletters and booklets from Ranger and Kenneth Whiting. Included are a souvenir booklet from Ranger's 1937 cruise to Peru, containing photographs, cartoons, an itinerary of the ship's Peruvian visit, and a lengthy section on the Neptune Party held during the cruise. Other items in this series include three issues of the newsletter "Kenneth Whiting Wilco," and a photographic booklet called "Life Aboard the Kenneth Whiting." The Publications Series is arranged alphabetically by title. Series II, Photographs, contains photos of Burns, Captain John S. McCain, group shots of crewmembers and Burns' class at Aviation Machinist's School, aircraft, and photographs of Ranger, Saratoga, and Lexington.

John Sidney "Jack" McCain Jr. (January 17, 1911 – March 22, 1981) was a United States Navy admiral who served in conflicts from the 1940s through the 1970s, including as the Commander, United States Pacific Command.
