Mary Wilkins Freeman letters and poems, 1886-1916.

The collection consists of eight pieces: letter to Dear Miss [name eradicated], 16 June 1886, giving advice about publishing and relating some of her own experiences; to Mrs. Morse, 17 Dec. 1893, from Randolph, Mass., regretfully declining an invitation to a party; to William Rideing, 30 Dec. 1898, from Randolph, Mass., expressing genteel frustration with her efforts to publish in Rideing's journal Youth's companion; the manuscript poem Grandmother's valentine, 14 Feb. 1891. Also, photocopy of typewritten letter to Carolyn Wells, 7 Nov. 1906, from Metuchen, N.J., accepting two tickets to a play by Annie Nathan Meyer; photocopy of inscription to James Carleton Young, 10 March 1908, expressing hopeful sentiment; photocopy of typewritten letter to Carolyn Wells, 16 Nov. 1916, from Metuchen, N.J., complaining of hand cramps and agreeing to an invitation to meet; and fine printing keepsake (1978) of poem The gift that none could see (1882), with illustrations by Stanislaus Martucci, and gift of Brent L. Kendrick, no. 77 of 100.
