Ireland, and an unidentified partial report describing Leon Czolgosz's assassination attempt on Sept. 6, 1901; several telegrams to John Wilkie, Chief of U.S. Secret Service, describing the President's condition and discussing funeral arrangements, 11-14 Sept. 1901; report, letters, and telegrams regarding anarchists' activities and danger to President McKinley, 1900; and a report, from the Papers of Franklin MacVeagh, Secretary of the Treasury, 1909-1913, discussing the use of the Secret Service at the time of McKinley's assassination and afterward for protection for U.S. Presidents, ca. 1910.

President William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States. He was beginning his second term as President after winning the election in 1900. On Sept. 5, 1901 he and his wife were attending the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York when he was shot by as assassin waiting in line to shake his hand.
