A native of Georgia, Richardson attended college in Atlanta before marrying Indianapolis attorney and legislator Henry J. Richardson, Jr. In Indianapolis, Richardson became active in a number of civic, religious, educational, and political organizations, and supported her husband's projects while raising two sons.
