Negative taken for January 28, 1959, Arkansas Gazette article "Hope's Split Hickory Famous," B1:3. The Split Hickory Company is located in Hope, Hempstead County, Arkansas. The company, with B.R. Schenck as general manager, employs 17 workers on average. Their product is used by animal trainers and others who work around animals. Mostly the split hickory is made into training canes, and hooks for use in animal training. The by-products of the company are hickory chips sold for use in charcoal grills, and hickory sawdust, which is sold to meat packing plants.
