[Letter from Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles to John Taylor Esq MP], 1817 October 29. 1817.

This letter was written by Raffles from Falmouth. He wrote that en route to Bencoolen (western Sumatra), where he was to take up the post of lieutenant-governor, he was forced to seek shelter from an ongoing storm: "We have had a great deal of motion and the Ladies, particularly My Lady, have suffered severely." The letter requests that Taylor organise a daily newspaper and forward correspondence to Falmouth.
