Oil Advisory Board minutes, 1939-1972.

This record group consists of the minutes of the Oil Advisory Board for the period July, 1939-1972. The Board was created by Act No. 61 of 1939. It was to be comprised of petroleum experts from the industry and the Michigan Geological Survey. The purpose of the Board was to offer guidance and recommendations in the exploitation of the state's hydrocarbons compatible with sound economic and conservation practices. In gathering data for its advisory decisions, the Board solicited input from business and the public by means of hearings and invitations to respond. The subjects considered by the documents in this record group cover such matters as well spacing, production rates, environmental protection, waste control, and proposed legislation.
