The collection contains an 1895/1896 photograph of Eliot in a school yard in St. Louis (1930s copy print); a photograph of Eliot reading a book in 1896 or 1897 on piazza of Massachusetts house (1930s copy print); a photograph of a portrait of Eliot at 12 by his sister Charlotte; a photograph of Eliot playing the piano in 1898 (1930s photographic postcard from an original negative taken by his brother Henry W. Eliot); two formal photographs taken of the 12 year old Eliot in 1899/1900 in St. Louis (1930s copyprints); a 1904 photograph of 16 year old Eliot taken by his brother at Gloucester, Mass. (1970s copy print). Also an original photographic postcard of Eliot and his mother in Hampton Court Gardens in 1921; a photographic postcard of Eliot in Russell Square in 1928, possibly by McKnight Kauffer; a 1930s snapshot of T.S. Eliot and family members in Rome taken by his brother Henry; two snapshots of Eliot at Woods Hole in 1947, possibly by Henry W. Eliot; and an original photograph taken at Wellesley in 1947. Many ot the photographs are annotated on the back in a hand presumed to be that of Henry Ware Eliot.

Thomas Stearns Eliot (1888-1965), a poet, critic, editor, and playwright, was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He received a B. A. in 1909 and an M. A. in 1910 from Harvard, where he also pursued a doctoral degree in philosophy. In 1915, he married Vivienne (Vivien) Haigh-Wood. He completed his dissertation in 1916 while living in England and submitted it to Harvard, but was unable to defend it. He was literary editor of the avant-garde magazine The Egoist.
