Colonel William Austin Jr., Clemson Class of 1959 and professor of Aerospace Studies in the Air Force ROTC detachment at Clemson compiled this list of alumni while preparing for the centennial celebration of Clemson University in 1989. The collection contains a list of Clemson College/University graduates to have attained the rank of Brigadier General or higher in the United States Army, Marines or Air Force from the Class of 1910 through the Class of 1960. The list was compiled by Colonel Bill Austin, a former professor of aerospace studies with Clemson University's ROTC detachment. General Chalmers Carr, Jr., USAF Clemson Class of 1960 used this list to have research undertaken at the U.S. Air Force Audiovisual Service at Norton Air Force Base. It contains copies of cataloged descriptions of film clips or still pictures in which nine of the listed alumni appeared from 1953 to 1973. The names are highlighted each time they appear in the record of a particular filmed or photographed event. There is also a letter from Colonel Dan Freeman to Brigadier General Chalmers Carr concerning the research involved in identifying these individuals, and a letter from Brigadier General Carr to Ms. Susan Hiott of the Clemson University Special Collections describing the list and associated materials.
