Letters to "Cousin Sarah" and "Sister Jennie" and an unrelated photograph, 1864 August 11.

In a letter to Sarah, 1864 August 11, Putnam gives a very detailed descripition of his section of the trenches before Petersburg. In a letter to Jennie, 1864 September 30, Newbern, N.C., he notes that there is Yellow Fever in Newbern which the doctors attribute to the "nasty conditions of the streets and town," gives news of other soldiers, and comments "thank God I was not fool enough to be bamboozled by a mess of officers into reenlisting." With the letters is a modern photograph of Private Alpheus Fuller, Co. G. 10th Maine Infantry, taken from the original in the possession of Nicholas P. Picerno.
